Patching Bugs

When to Use

Use for one named bug in the current local codebase when a reviewer needs a local patch commit, independent proof, regression check, and local review reports. See the record contract before creating the run directory.

When NOT to Use

Use

to discover bugs in an unfamiliar change. Do not use this skill for a remote deployment or a batch of bugs.

Workflow

During preflight, before the first build, pin the baseline SHA and read root guidance from its Git objects. Save present files and absences under

guidance/<baseline-SHA>/

outside the target tree; verify them before each handoff. Confirm

Use

uv run --no-project

for bundled scripts. Every handoff is a validated JSON record with a manifest covering the whole step directory. Transcribe results from receipts; never infer a passing check from an agent's summary.

Rationalizations to Reject

Shortcut	Required action
The patcher already tested it.	Use a fresh prover and run all proof arms.
Regression-hunt is slow.	Run it; incomplete coverage is a concern, not a pass.
A missing receipt or failing check is close enough.	Treat evidence gaps as INCONCLUSIVE and trustworthy patched failures as failed repair.
The runtime PoC crashed, so the bug reproduced.	Require the exact `PATCH_REACHED` line.
